Special Tours

Participants at the Arctic Circle Assembly were invited to book Special Tours on the day after the Assembly. The three tours offered adventures in Iceland with expert guides: Volcano Hike and the Blue Lagoon - Glaciers and Climate Change - Golden Circle and Friðheimar Farm.

VOLCANO HIKE AND THE BLUE LAGOON

This tour began in Reykjavík, in front of Harpa Conference Center at 8:30 am. Participants were taken to the Reykjanes Peninsula where they stopped at a few scenic locations before heading to Geldingadalir where they hiked up to the newest volcano in Iceland for a picknick. The second half of the tour had the options of relaxation and dinner at the Blue Lagoon or a drop-off at the airport.

GLACIERS AND CLIMATE CHANGE

This tour began in Reykjavík, in front of Harpa Conference Center at 8:30 am. Stops were made at the hot spring in Deildartunga and in Reykholt on the way to Langjökull glacier where participants had the unique opportunity to enter the glacier through a tunnel. Inside the tunnel system, an Icelandic glaciologist outlined the latest results from measurements of glacier changes in Iceland and discussed projections for future changes.

GOLDEN CIRCLE AND FRIÐHEIMAR FARM

This tour began in Reykjavík, in front of Harpa Conference Center at 8:30 am. The Golden Circle tour is an Icelandic classic with stops at some of the most beautiful places situated a short drive from Reykjavík, including Þingvellir National Park, Friðheimar, an Icelandic geothermal greenhouse tomato farm and restaurant, the breathtaking waterfall Gullfoss and the Geysir hot spring area.
